There's a lot of MC fans in the reviews who can't take a joke. It's called a parody guys. Hunter can makes snide comments in his discord all he wants, at the end of the day he built his audience the same way, satirizing formulaic content creators with cartoons.

Don't worry fellas. If it's a war they want, it's a war we will bring them. Slava Pukraini!

NattoSumi responds:

If Hunter wants some, he can come n geet it

NickSenny responds:

Are you talking about Hunter Hearst Helmsley? This IS all about the game

Keep up the good work

retr0smash responds:

I'm gonna be honest here.
Brewster, usually I don't really like your cartoons. I don't know what it is, because I know that you're a funny and original guy, so it always through me off when you made a cartoon and it was just like that gay ultimate happiness shit. I think you've made progress lately with more well structured stuff like those Nata entries you did but even then the crisp animation and clear storytelling didn't really mean anything because ultimately I still never felt like I was seeing anything new. There was always this general sense of know how basically everything was going to play out through the whole movie. That's not necessarily a terrible thing, but I knew a guy like you should have been taking bigger risks because (old magical negro voice ) you got the chops for it kiddo.
Then this shit came out. Goddamn. Marty showed it to me first and I remember the first thing I said was "Brewster made a cartoon I actually like." Maybe this is just my overly postmodern sense of humor but I think you fuckin killed it with this one. The dialogue and the visuals both revel in this surreal sort of limbo that blends the ultra dry with the totally absurd. I MEAN ONE OF THE CHARACTERS IS A FUCKING BLUE TRIANGLE MILKMAN LIKE WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT. The pacing is brilliant. Again, feels like everything thing they say is fluctuating between two different frequencies, each emphasizing the other. If you'll permit me to go totally artsy fartsy hipster critic for a minute here, I'd say that this cartoon has the comic timing equivalent of math rock. You set up our expectations, and then immediately 180, and then do it again in the next sentence THEY NEVER ADDRESS IT HE IS CARRYING AROUND BOTTLED MILK IN SOME RANDOM FIELD So well done Brewster. This is a good cartoon. But I'm still giving you 4/5. It's very good, but I think you're still just beginning to break into what you're really capable of. Keep up the good SERIOUSLY A MILKMAN COEXISTS WITH BIG BANG THEORY SEASON TWO LET THAT SINK IN

Please allow me to insert your penis into my mouth,

Pjorg

Brewster responds:

First off, thanks for this actual review.

I totally agree with you about my previous stuff. It's not that I'm not proud of my old work, but looking back it's definitely nothing special. I've always had a sense of humor but I've always had a hard time fusing my 'comedic' 'stylings' and my animation. I felt like I kinda broke personal ground with Voyaging the Void. It was a small step but there was definitely a piece of my sense of humor in there, rather than that gay "for moms" kinda stuff that I always did. I too thought I needed to be taking bigger risks, especially after I got out of NATA this year. I think what gave me the confidence to take this risk was actually your and Marty's Animated Memes.

I legitimately think that's one of the funniest things on Newgrounds. When I saw that I kinda wanted to do something similar, but not too similar, so when I was recording this I had Animated Memes in mind (two guys talking, long uncomfortable pauses, dumb nonsense jokes). And it made me realize something. Whenever I would try to write a comedy video it would always be me trying to think of a central joke, with maybe a couple throw away jokes thrown in there so it doesn't get boring. This would all leading up to one big punchline, but the punchlines always lacked the punch.

There are certain people, like McBinkles, who can establish a premise, deliver a punchline and boom, joke in animated form. I can't do that. What I can do is deliver a bunch of quick, slightly above average gags without making a big deal out of them. If you took out any one of the jokes here and tried to use it on its own, it would bomb horribly. I realize that, and so I tried to bombard the viewer with as many jokes as possible until maybe one of them got a laugh. And it seems like that worked for the most part. I've been getting reviews saying that they only laughed the staredown part, or like the guy above you said he "lost it at kids bop 5". I just hope I can figure out a way to keep telling jokes in this style without it getting stale.

I kinda got off topic there a little, anyway thanks for writing all that and thanks for being a real great pal. Thanks!

Pretty great. There were a few parts that could have been a little smoother but the story had decent pacing and the camera angles were really well done... especially that bit where he's at the breakfast table with mismatched socks. The FBF'd stuff looked very cool.
In terms of story, i wasn't totally sure what was happening and I think there could have been a better payoff. Last minute rewrites tend to have that effect.
This is just me, but I think the movie could have been done without voices. Though I guess that is almost cliche at this point, so maybe not... regardless, nice work, and really great to see you experimenting with new styles even this late in the competition. Hope it pays off for ya!

Pahgawk responds:

I'm not sure if it's cliche or not, but I guess it would be a little cliche for me, given the sort of videos I've been making. It seems my formula is this: voiceless, so the music carries the story, and everything's usually a metaphor or some other abstract concept, and there's a main character who's under pressure from whatever this concept or metaphor is. I guess I didn't really branch out of my normal style a whole lot after all, but when I tried to make this a comedy, it didn't really work, so... I guess I still have a lot to learn.

That was really, really, really funny.

First he got hit in the balls, then his mom came in and he said PEE! LOLOLO>LO XD Make more though only 9/10 cuz there should be more. like poop.

Aqlex responds:

You're being sarcastic, right? I'm sensing a lot of sarcasm from this comment...yet you gave me a 9? I'm confused.

Why not finish a film before you submit it?

"Mario vs Sonic attempt" is not a very assertive title. As usual, I am disappointed in this sprite flash due to its' use of stolen graphics. In case you haven't noticed, pretty much every sprite film out there is some variant of "Mario vs Sonic," so zero points for originality. The fighting wasn't even interesting. It was just a series of random explosions.

theGoronclub responds:

cant finish it so just felt like uploading it and this was a request from my friend he said to me its like a sprite animators right of passage to do a mario vs sonic animation especially if your a gamer but thanks for the input anyways hope you keep watching and hope in the future i can please your tastes :)
